How to recover a virtual machine using Cloud Backup

With your backup files, you can recover virtual machines via the Cloud Backup console using any web browser.

Important note: Before you can perform a recovery of a virtual machine, you need to create backups first. Also, a virtual machine must be inactive during the recovery process. After the recovery is complete, you need to start the virtual computer or machine manually.

If you want to access the Cloud Backup console via the Cloud Backup Agent, you have to first download and install the appropriate agent for your computer or device.

Moreover, before performing a recovery, you need to have backups of your computer or device first. If you want to know how to create a Backup using Cloud Backup, click here.

Once you are in the Cloud Backup console, follow the steps below to know how to recover a virtual machine:

1. Click Device on the left menu bar, which will open the list of all computers and devices connected to the Cloud Backup.
2. Select the computer or device you want to back up, then click Recovery on the right menu bar.
3. Next, choose a recovery point.

Note: If the computer or device is offline, you will not be able to see the recovery points belonging to it.

This will also open another menu, where you can configure the following:

Select Machine	This is where you can set the target computer or device for the backup you want to recover.
Download Files	This is where you can find, and download, all backup files stored in your Cloud account.
Download ISO Image	This is where you can download an ISO image that you can turn into a bootable media. You can put the ISO image in a flash drive, a disc, or a virtual machine.

4. Click Recover.
5. Select Entire machine. The software will automatically map the disks from the backup to the target machine. It will also automatically select the original machine as the target machine.

If you want to recover another virtual machine, click Target machine and perform the following:


1. Choose the relevant hypervisor. It could be Hyper-V, Virtuozzo, or VMware ESXi.

   Note: Only virtual machines running Virtuozzo can be recovered to Virtuozzo. If you want further information about V2V migration, kindly refer to How to perform machine migration.

2. Choose whether to recover to an existing or new machine.
3. Choose the relevant host and type in the name for the new machine. You can also opt to select an existing target machine.
4. Click OK.

If you are performing recovery to a new machine, you can also do the following:

1. Click Path for Hyper-V, and Virtuozzo or Datastore for ESXi. Choose the relevant datastore (storage) for the virtual computer.
2. Click VM settings to modify the memory size, and the number of virtual and network adapters of the said virtual computer.
3. Click Start recovery.
4. Confirm that you want the backup to overwrite the target computer or device.
5. Select your preference on whether to restart your computer automatically or not.
Depending on your internet connection, you may have to wait a few minutes for the recovery process to complete. You can check the recovery progress by clicking the Activities tab on the right menu bar.
