How to recover a Physical machine to virtual using Cloud Backup
Among the things you can do with Cloud Backup is to create and store backup files as well as recover computers and devices. You can do all this via the backup agent or the web console.

How to recover a Physical machine to virtual using Cloud Backup
If you want to know how to recover a Physical machine as a virtual machine using Cloud Backup, follow the guide below.
- Click Device on the left menu bar, which will open the list of all computers and devices connected to the Cloud Backup service.
- Select the computer or device you want to recover, then click Recovery on the right menu bar. This will open another menu.
- Choose a recovery point. If the computer or device is offline, you will not be able to see the recovery points belonging to it. If this is the case, do any of the following options to recover the machine:
- Go to the Backups tab on the right menu bar, and choose a recovery point.
- If the backup file you need is in shared storage or cloud, click Select Machine in the Recovery tab. Then, select a machine that’s online, and then choose a recovery point.
- Follow the guide in How to recover disks by using bootable media in Cloud Backup.
- Click Recover.
- Click Entire machine.
- In the Recover to field, choose Virtual machine.
- Next, click Target machine. Then, you need to assign the value of the following:
Important note: Before performing a recovery, you need to have backups of your computer or device first. If you want to know how to create a Backup using Cloud Backup, click here.
| Direct Selection | Choose VMware ESXi or Hyper-V
Note: For this process to be performed, there should be at least one agent for VMware or Hyper-V properly installed and registered in your computer. |
| Machine type | Choose whether to recover to an existing or new machine.
Note: It is recommended that you choose new machine so that disk configuration of the target machine would not need to match the disk configuration of the backup. |
| Host/Target machine | Set rules which disks/volumes to back up. The rules can be predefined or created, or a combination of both. |

Click OK.
- Click Start recovery to begin the process.
- If you’re trying to recover an existing virtual machine, confirm that you want the backup to overwrite the disks.
Depending on your internet connection, you may have to wait a few minutes for the recovery process to complete. You can check the recovery progress by clicking the Activities tab on the right menu bar.
If you’re doing the recovery process to a new machine, the following steps may also be helpful:
- Choose Datastore for ESXi, or Path for Hyper-V. Then, select the storage for the virtual machine.
- Choose VM settings to change the memory size, number of processors, and the virtual machine’s network connections.
