How To Activate Gmail for Google Workspace

Are you ready to activate Gmail for Google Workspace? Gmail activation would require you to update your domain name's MX record to point to Google email servers. This guide will take you through the necessary steps to ensure a smooth activation process.

Before you start, make sure you have created a Google Workspace admin user and verified your domain name.

Step 1: Locate your DNS editor

  1. Check the current name servers connected to your domain name.
  2. Refer to the table below to know where you can add your Google Workspace DNS records.
    Current Name Servers Where To Add Google MX Record
    ns1.crazydomains.com and ns2.crazydomains.com
    or
    ns1.dnspackage.com and ns2.dnspackage.com     		Select Crazy Domains' Account Manager DNS settings in Step 2.
    ns1.syrahost.com and ns2.syrahost.com If your domain is connected to our Linux Hosting, select cPanel DNS editor in Step 2.
    If your domain is connected to our Windows Hosting, select Plesk DNS settings in Step 2.
    External Name Servers (not ours) Select External Name Servers in Step 2.

Step 2: Add Google Workspace MX record

Select one of the DNS zones below that corresponds to the name servers of your domain. See step 1 to learn more

Account Manager DNS Settings

Add your Google MX record in your Crazy Domains Account Manager DNS settings if the current name servers of your domain name are ns1.crazydomains.com and ns2.crazydomains.com; or ns1.dnspackage.com and ns2.dnspackage.com.

  1. Access the DNS settings of your domain in your Crazy Domains account manager.
  2. Look at your current DNS records and remove any MX records that are not associated with Google.
  3. Add a new MX record.
  4. Leave the Sub Domain field empty or blank.
  5. Set the priority to 1
  6. On the Assigned To Server field, enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  7. Click Update and wait for the new record to fully work or resolve
  8. Follow the same steps to add the remaining Google MX records below:

cPanel DNS Editor

Add your Google MX record in cPanel DNS Editor if the current name servers of your domain name are ns1.syrahost.com and ns2.syrahost.com and your domain name is connected to our Linux Hosting product.

  1. Go to your cPanel DNS editor.
  2. Look at your current DNS records and remove any MX records that are not associated with Google.
  3. Add a new MX Record.
  4. On the Name field, enter your domain name.
  5. On the TTL field, enter 3600.
  6. Select MX on the Type field.
  7. On the Record fields, enter 1 as Priority and ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM as Destination.
  8. Click Save Record and wait for it to fully work or resolve.
  9. Follow the same steps to add the remaining Google MX records below:

    (your domain) 3600 MX 10 ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

Plesk DNS Settings

Add your Google MX Record in Plesk DNS Settings if the current name servers of your domain name are ns1.syrahost.com and ns2.syrahost.com and your domain name is connected to our Windows Hosting product.

  1. Go to your Plesk DNS Settings.
  2. Look at your current DNS records and remove any MX records that are not associated with Google.
  3. Add a new MX record.
  4. Select MX on the Record type option.
  5. Leave the Mail domain texbox empty or blank.
  6. Enter 3600 in the TTL field.
  7. On the Mail exchange server field, enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
  8. Set the Priority to 1
  9. Click OK and wait for it to fully work or resolve.
  10. Follow the same steps to add the remaining Google MX records below:

    MX (leave this blank) 3600 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM 5
    MX (leave this blank) 3600 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM 5
    MX (leave this blank) 3600 ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM 10
    MX (leave this blank) 3600 ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM 10

External Name Servers

If your domain name is connected to external name servers (not ours), contact the name server provider, or find the appropriate guide here: https://support.google.com/a/topic/1611273.

Step 3: Complete Gmail Activation in your Google Admin Console

To complete your Gmail activation, you have to tell Google that you have set up the required MX records to your domain already.

  1. Log in to your Google Admin console.
  2. On the left sidebar, click Accounts>Domains>Manage Domains.
  3. On your Primary Domain, click Activate Gmail.
  4. Select Set up MX record on the pop-up screen, then click NEXT.
  5. Click GO TO STEP2.
  6. Scroll down to the bottom then click ACTIVATE GMAIL.

    NOTE : If Google Workspace setup tool will through up some error message, wait for the new DNS records to fully work or resolve before you try again.
