Replication in Cloud Backup

In creating a backup using Cloud Backup, an option to replicate backups is available. If enabled, each backup created will be copied to a second location instantly after creation.

The software also replicates all of the backups that appeared after the last successful replication, should earlier backups fail to replicate. For example, during a failure caused by network connection lost.

Replicated backups are not dependent on the remaining backups in the original location and vice versa. This means that you are able to recover data from any backup, without access to other locations.

Why Replicate

Below are usage examples for creating a replicate backup of your data:

• Reliable Disaster Recovery.
  Storing your backups both on-site and off-site for immediate recovery and backup security from local storage failure and natural disasters.
• Cloud Storage for Data Protection.
  Replicating the backups to the Cloud Storage, transferring only the data changes, for easy data recovery in case of natural disasters.
• Keeping Only the Latest Recovery Points.
  Deleting older backups from fast storage according to retention rules set, to avoid the overuse of expensive storage space.

• Secure Zone

Enabling Backup Replication

Here’s how to enable backup replication in Cloud Backup:

1. Access the Cloud Backup Console.
2. Click Devices on the left menu bar to open the list of all computers/devices connected to the Cloud Backup.
3. Select the computer/device you want to back up, then click Backup on the right menu bar to open a New backup plan template.
4. Click on the REPLICATE BACKUPS switch to enable option.
5. In WHERE TO REPLICATE, specify the destination for your backup replicates.

6. Click on the HOW LONG TO KEEP link to specify the retention rules.
7. Click on the [v] symbol to select one of the following:
• By backup age (default)
  Under How long to keep backups, specify the Monthly and Weekly retention rules.
  By default, the rules are specified separately for each backup set. If you want to apply one rule for all backups, click on the Switch to single rule for all backup sets link then specify the period.
• By number of backups
  Specify the number of backups to retain.
• Keep backups indefinitely
8. Click DONE to save the applied rules.

Note: A backup stored in local or network folders cannot be deleted if it has dependent backups not subject to deletion. These are deleted only when the period of all their backups expires. Extra space is required for storing backups whose deletion is postponed. Also, the backup age and the number of backups may go beyond the values you specify.
