Error handling in Cloud Backup

Error handling options enable you to specify how the program handles the errors that might occur during backups.

Before making changes to your backup’s error handling, learn about the available options in Cloud Backup.

The “Re-attempt, if an error occurs” Option

The preset for this option is Enabled, with the Number of attempts set to 30 and the Interval between attempts set to 30 seconds.

The program re-attempts to perform the failed operation when a recoverable error occurs. Here you can set the number of attempts and the time interval. The attempts will stop as soon as the operation is successful or the indicated number of attempts are performed, depending on which comes first.

With the preset values above for instance, the program will attempt to reach the destination every 30 seconds for no more than 30 times, if the backup destination is unavailable or unreachable on the network. The attempts will stop as soon as the connection resumes or the indicated number of attempts is performed, depending on which comes first.

Note: The option value is automatically set to Enabled, with the Number of attempts set to 300 and the Interval between attempts set to 30 seconds, if the Cloud Storage is selected as the primary or the second destination for the backups.

The “Do not show messages and dialogs while processing (silent mode)” Option

The preset for this option is Enabled.

If the silent mode is enabled, the program will automatically handle situations which require user interaction; except for handling bad sectors, which is defined as a separate option. However, the operation will fail if it cannot continue without user interaction. Specifics of the operation, including errors, if any, are listed in the operation log.

The “Ignore bad sectors” Option

The preset for this option is Disabled.

While this option is disabled, the backup activity will be assigned the Interaction required status each time the program runs into a bad sector. Enable this option if you want to back up valid information on a rapidly dying disk and the rest of the data will be backed up. You can then mount the resulting disk backup and extract valid files to another disk.

The “Re-attempt, if an error occurs during VM snapshot creation” Option

The preset for this option is Enabled, with the Number of attempts set to 3 and the Interval between attempts set to 5 minutes.

The program re-attempts to perform the failed operation when taking a virtual machine snapshot fails. You can set the number of attempts and the time interval. The attempts will stop as soon as the operation is successful or the indicated number of attempts are performed, depending on which comes first.

Error Handling Setup

Here’s how to set up error handling in Cloud Backup:

1. Access the Cloud Backup Console.
2. Click Devices on the left menu bar to open the list of all computers/devices connected to the Cloud Backup.
3. Select the computer/device you want to back up, then click Backup on the right menu, then click Add Backup Plan.
   If you don’t have a Backup Plan yet, you will be directed to a New Backup Plan template.
4. Click on the Gear icon, then select Backup options.
5. Click Error handling then make the necessary changes to the set up.
6. Click DONE to save settings.
