For FTP Setup & Access

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a network protocol you can use to transfer files from one host to another. This is an important method of connecting your Web Hosting. Which enables you to upload, download, and manage files on your Web Hosting account.

1. What is FTP

FTP is a standard network protocol. It is commonly used to transfer computer files from one host to another host over a network such as Local Area Network (LAN) or the internet.

It is a helpful method to help you move files to your web server, especially if you’re moving a large number of files at once. Other functions you can do using FTP are:

  • Upload
  • Download
  • Move
  • Copy
  • Delete
  • Rename

2. How to Access your FTP

You have two ways of accessing your FTP, via the internet browser or using an FTP Client. But first, we’ll locate your FTP login credentials via your Hosting Manager.

Find your FTP Credentials


Step 1. Access your Hosting Manager.
Step 2. On the Home page, click the User icon on the left panel.

Step 3. On this page, you’ll see all the user accounts, who have email, FTP or Web Disk that are associated with your domain name.

Step 4. Select the FTP user account you want to view and click Edit.

Step 5. You’ll see the information of the FTP account, including the username and domain name it is linked to.

Note: If you’ve forgotten the password, scroll to the Security Information section and enter a new password, re-enter the new password. Scroll down and click Save to update the user information.

Now that you have your FTP credentials, let’s access your FTP.

Access via the Internet browser


To make the connection, follow the steps below:

  1. Open a web browser tab.
  2. Put “ftp” before your domain name and TLD in the browser address.
    Example: ftp.[yourdomain].com
  3. A pop-up box will appear. Type in your username and password. Click Log In.

The files and folders in your domain’s home directory will be displayed in the next page.

Access via an FTP Client


Accessing FTP using an FTP client you will need the following information:

Host name yourdomain.com - You can use your domain for the host name.
ftp.yourdomain.com - All domains are set up with an "FTP" subdomain which can also be used as the host name.
server IP address - Your server IP can also be used for the host name.
Username Connect to your FTP using your Hosting Manager username.
Password Connect to your FTP using your Hosting Manager password.
Port This is the port that your FTP connection will be using. The default port is 21.
Directory The main directory for your domain will be public_html. When you log in, you will be automatically pointed to this directory.

Once you have your FTP information ready, you can now use it to manage your webspace via an FTP Client. There are different FTP clients available. The most commonly used are FileZilla, CyberDuck, and CuteFTP. But don’t worry we have included other available FTP clients you can use. Click the link of the corresponding FTP Client you want to use and follow the steps to get access to your FTP.

Also, there are three FTP client software (Filezilla, CoreFTP, and Cyberduck) in Hosting Manager that you can readily install. To install your preferred FTP client and access your FTP use the steps below.

Step 1. Access your Hosting Manager.
Step 2. On the Home page, scroll to the Files tab and click the FTP Accounts option.

Step 3. On the next page, scroll down to FTP Accounts and Special FTP Accounts section.

Step 4. Choose the FTP account you want to manage. Then, click on Configure FTP Client link.

Step 5. You need the Manual Settings information in order for you to log in to your FTP account files.
Step 6. Under Configuration Files, select the FTP client you want to use and click the Instructions (new window) link.

Step 6. On the next page, follow the instructions on how to set up and use the software you selected.

How to Set Up a New FTP account
