How to Set up a New FTP Account

An FTP account is where you can manage your website files. Including, Images, Videos, Codes, and etc,. Once you sign up for a Web Hosting account, an FTP account is set up for you. You can then have access to creating an addon domain, subdomain, and even setting up a new FTP account.

Setting up a new FTP account means you can give access to your website files to other users without giving your web hosting login credentials. When you set up new FTP accounts, you have the option to configure each account's password. And their quota in managing your website files. Read through this article to learn how to set up and configure FTP accounts.

How to Set up a New FTP Account

Follow the steps below to set up a new FTP account into your Web Hosting account.

  1. Access your Hosting Manager .
  2. Scroll down to Files tab, then click the FTP Accounts option.
  3. Under Add FTP Account, complete the information to the following fields:
    Log In This is the username for your new FTP account.
    Password This is the key that will enable you to access your FTP account.

    We recommend that you use uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols to create a strong password. The system will tell you how weak or strong your password is when you type it in the appropriate fields.

    If you find it difficult to make a strong enough password for your email, you can let the system create one for you.

    Click the Password Generator button. In the pop-up box, copy the generated password and paste that in the Password. fields.

    You can also choose to check I have copied this password in a safe place. Then, click Use Password. This will automatically copy and paste the generated password in the Password fields.

    Important: Make sure you have actually saved the generated password in a safe and easy to recall place.

    Directory This is the path to access your new user FTP account.
    Quota This is the amount of space your new user may use for your FTP account.
  4. Click the Create FTP Account button.

Important: Please take note that any changes you make may take around 10 minutes to take effect.

How to Configure Your FTP Account

A secured FTP account can prevent you from hackers or unauthorised access. Thus, we recommend updating your FTP account passwords periodically. Follow the steps below to change the password or change the quota to your FTP accounts in your hosting account.

Change Your FTP Account Password


Step 1. Access your Hosting Manager.
Step 2. Scroll down to Files tab, then click the FTP Accounts option.

Step 3. Scroll down to FTP Accounts. Click on the Change Password link of the FTP account you want to manage.

Step 4. Enter your new password.

Note: Clicking on the Password Generator button will automatically enter a system-generated string of random characters in the Password fields. If used, click on the field to view the Password, then copy and paste it in a secure place.

Step 5. Click the Change Password button.

Change Your FTP Account Quota


If you want to change the space quota, follow the steps below.

  1. Access your Hosting Manager .
  2. Scroll down to Files tab, then click the FTP Accounts option.
  3. Scroll down to FTP Accounts, select the FTP account you want to modify.
    Then, click the Change Quota link or Settings icon.
  4. If you don't want to set a limit, choose the Unlimited option.
  5. Click the Change Quota button to confirm.
