How To Recover a Domain From Redemption

Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD) will enter the Redemption Period if they are deleted or not renewed within 30 days after the expiration date.

  • If you delete a domain name (with redemption), it enters the redemption period immediately.
  • If you will not renew an expired domain name (with redemption), it enters the redemption period after the 30 days renewal grace period.

During this stage, the domain name is placed on hold for 30 calendar days before it enters a deletion period — managed by the registry. It's possible to reclaim the domain name during this period, but it will come at a higher cost.

NOTE: Some of the Country Code Top-Level Domains (cc TLDs) that have redemption periods include .IE, .IM, .IN, .IT, .LA, .ME, .MN, .MX, .NO, .NU, .PH, .PL, .PR, .PW, .RU, and .SG..

Processing a Domain Redemption

Domain names in the redemption period can no longer be renewed through the Account Manager as a policy. The only way to recover them is by initiating a domain redemption process using a Redemption Form. Follow these steps to access the form for your domain:

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. On the dashboard, click the domain name that you want to redeem.
  3. On the domain page, click the Redeem Now button next to the domain status. This will open the redemption form.
  4. Fill out the Redemption Form and submit it to domains@crazydomains.com.

If the Redemption Form is not readily visible in the Account Manager, find the appropriate form based on your locale from the list below:

Restoring the Domain from Redemption

Recovering a domain from Redemption will restore it to Active or Registered Status and extend the domain registration period by one year. Furthermore, you will be required to cover administrative fees imposed by the Registry, which will cover the domain's restoration and its renewal for one year.

Domain Name Redemption is governed by the Registry, not Crazy Domains (Registrar), and only applies to Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs).

If all the Auto-Renewal attempts to fail and you do not Manually Renew your Domain Name before its expiration date, the Domain Name will go into the Renewal Grace Period — which lasts for 30 days to 45 days. Once the Renewal Grace Period is up and you have not renewed your domain name, it will then undergo a Redemption Period.

During the Redemption Period, you will be given up to 30 calendar days to Restore your domain name. If you fail to Restore your domain name within the given time frame, it will then be placed on Pending Delete status and eventually be Deleted after (5) five days — making it available for anyone to register.
