How Do I Validate SSL Certificate
Your SSL validation process will depend on the SSL level type being requested. The process requires you to submit documents. Supporting that your business is real and you are the legitimate and legal owner of your website.

Standard SSL
The Domain Validated (DV) SSL Certificate is the most basic one. And requires the least verification process. Certificate Authority (CA) only verifies if the applicant owns the domain for which they request the certificate. This is a good option for personal websites like blogs, and etc,.
Here’s how to get a DV Standard SSL Certificate.
- Domain Control Validation
Create a valid email for your domain. The goal of the verification process through email is to ensure the person requesting the certificate has admin rights on the domain, called administrative emails. The approval of your certificate will be sent to the following email address:
- admin@domain
- administrator@domain
- webmaster@domain
- postmaster@domain
- hostmaster@domain
Important: There are no alternatives. However, you can use other account emails or any other email as long as it is visible in the public WHOIS record for the domain.
Wildcard SSL
Organisation Validation (OV) Certificate in Wildcard SSL, requires you to prove that your organisation is a legal entity. The OV process is a lot more detailed than a DV Certificate. It takes days to validate a certificate. This is why OV Certificates provide a better level of authentication.
If you want to get an OV Certificate, follow the steps below and comply with the following requirements.
- Verify Identity and Address
In this step, the requirements for your OV Certificate will depend on if you’re applying as an organisation, or if you’re applying as an individual.
If applying as an organisation
For a corporation, government agency, registered business entity, etc. Here’s how to verify your identity and address.
- A government agency in the jurisdiction of the Applicant’s legal creation, existence, or recognition.

If the information above, only verifies your identity. We can further verify your address by:
- Articles of Incorporation (with address)
- Government Issued Business License (with address)
- Copy of a recent company bank statement (you may blacken out the Account Number)
- Copy of a recent company phone bill
- Copy of a recent major utility bill of the company (i.e. power bill, water bill, etc.) or current lease agreement for the company
Note: For “recent documents”, documents must be dated within the last 6 months.
If applying as an individual
For individual applicants, here’s how you can verify your identity and address.
- Copy of a valid driver's license or passport of the Applicant.
- Copy of a recent major utility bill (i.e. power bill, water bill, etc.) or bank statement of the Applicant.
Note: If the Driver’s License and Passport are not listing any address details or those details do not match with the account, then we need A. and 2 docs from B.
- Domain Control Validation
- Callbacks to a Verified Telephone Number
This process is to verify the applicant’s identity. The telephone number must be associated with the organization in your validation documents. After a successful callback, your certificate is issued and you will be notified through email once it’s available.

The validation process takes longer as it requires thorough verification of your identity and your organisation you are applying for a certificate. This is also why EV SSL also offers the highest levels of authentication.
