Setup spam filter for Email Hosting

What is spam filter?

Our hosting service uses SpamAssassin, which is the world's #1 Open Source anti-spam platform, to filter, classify, and block spam email.

To efficiently filter Spam, SpamAssassin scans the following parts of every incoming email:

  • Header
  • Text or Main Message
  • HTML Coding
  • Domain
  • Sender’s IP Address

How to enable SpamAssassin in Email Hosting

To enjoy the above functions of SpamAssassin, you will need to enable SpamAssassin in your Hosting Manager. The steps below will show you how:

  1. Click Sign Up / Log In at the top of this page.
  2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your username and password, then click Log In.
  4. On the Home page, click Email or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right.
  5. Click on the Apache SpamAssassin icon.
  6. Click on the Enable Apache SpamAssassin button.
On the next page, you will get the confirmation statement: Apache SpamAssassin is now enabled.

Congratulations! Your SpamAssassin is now enabled.

How to route Spam Emails to the Junk Folder

By default, all emails are sent to your Inbox, including emails that are tagged as Spam. To move Spam emails automatically to your Junk Folder, you will need to enable SpamAssassin and then set a Global Filter in your Hosting Manager.

  5. Click on the Global Filters icon.
  6. Click on the Create a New Filter button.
  7. Under Filter Name, enter a name that describes your filter. Example: Moving Spam Emails to Junk Folder.
The filter name must be unique. If you give the filter the same name as another filter, the previous filter will be overwritten.
  8. Under Rules, select Spam Status from the 1st drop-down menu and select begins with from the 2nd drop-down menu, then enter Yes on the empty box.
  9. Under Actions, select Deliver to Folder from the drop-down menu and an additional option will appear below it.
  10. Click Browse and select Junk.
  11. Click Create and a confirmation message will appear at the top of the page once the filter has been applied.

Congratulations! Your Spam is now routed to your Junk Folder.

Hint: To filter all mail that SpamAssassin has marked with a Spam Score of 5.0 or greater, select Spam Bar instead of "Spam Status" and contains instead of "begins with", then enter “+++++” in the empty box instead of "Yes". The [+] plus symbol directly corresponds to the Spam Score set. So if a Spam Score of 4 is set, then enter "++++", while 3 would be +++, etc.

How to enable the SpamAssassin Auto-Delete Function

The SpamAssassin can implement a scoring process to identify which emails are Spam. The same scoring process can be used to set which emails you would like to be auto-deleted from your email account. This way, it no longer saves a copy in the Junk Folder.

To enable the Auto-Delete function, follow the steps below:

  6. Scroll down to the Filters section and set the Spam Score.
Messages with the set Spam Score or higher will be deleted.
  7. Click on the Auto-Delete Spam button.
On the next page, your newly created filter will appear with the [+] plus symbol directly corresponding to the Spam Score set. So if a Spam Score of 6 is set, your filter will appear as follows:
    $h_X-Spam-Bar: contains "++++++"

Congratulations! Your Auto-Delete function is now enabled.
