How to Link Website Builder to Google Tag Manager

Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a tag management tool that allows you to launch your programs faster. Linking your Google Tag Manager account to your Website Builder website has never been easier. You can do it by accessing your Website Builder Dashboard through the Account Manager. And, with just a few clicks from the Website Builder Editor, you'll be done in no time.

Step 1: Copy Your GTM Container ID

If you don't have you're Container ID ready, here's where you'll find it:

  1. Go to the Google Tag Manager webpage.
  2. Click Sign in to Tag Manager at the top-right corner of the page.

    Note: If you haven't signed in to your Google or Gmail account yet, you will be prompted to log in. Enter your Google or Gmail account's Username and click Next, then enter the corresponding Password and click Next.

  3. A list of all your GTM Accounts will automatically be displayed with their corresponding Container ID's.
  4. Copy the Container ID corresponding to the account that you wish to link to Website Builder.

    Note: The Container ID will start with GTM- followed by a random combination of letters and numbers, e.g. GTM-AB12C3D.

Now you're ready to proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Paste Your GTM Container ID in Website Builder

Follow the instructions below to link your Google Tag Manager account to Website Builder:

  1. Click Sign Up / Log In at the top of this page.
  2. Select Account Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your username and password then, click Log In.
  4. Click the Visit My Account button.
  5. Click Website Builder from the menu at the top of the page.
  6. Click on the Website Builder plan that you wish to manage.
    If you only have one Website Builder plan, you will automatically be redirected to its management page.
  7. Hover your mouse pointer over the [+] Icon at the upper right-hand section of the page and click Build Now.
  8. On the Sites page of your Website Builder Dashboard, hover your mouse pointer over the project that you wish to manage then click Edit.
  9. On the Website Builder Editor, click Settings from the left-side menu.
  10. Click on Marketing then select Google Tag Manager.
  11. Click the Connect button.
  12. Enter your Container ID in the box provided and click Save.

Congratulations! You've just linked Website Builder to your Google Tag Manager.

Creating a Google Tag Manager Account & Container ID

If you don't have a Google Tag Manager account yet, you will need to sign up for an account and create a Container ID, then connect it to your Website Builder website with the instructions under Step 2 above.

To sign up for a Google Tag Manager account and create a Container ID, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Google Tag Manager webpage.
  2. Click Sign in to Tag Manager at the top-right corner of the page, then click Create Account.
    Or, you can click on the Start for free button beside it.

    Note: If you haven't signed in to your Google or Gmail account yet, you will be prompted to log in. Enter your Google or Gmail account's Username and click Next, then enter the corresponding Password and click Next.

  3. Under the Admin tab's Account Setup section, enter a new Account Name and select your Country from the drop-down list.
  4. Under the Container Setup section, enter a Container Name in the field provided, e.g. www.mywebsite.com
  5. Under Target platform, select Web to connect it to Website Builder later, then click Create.
  6. Review the Google Tag Manager Terms of Service Agreement and click Yes.
  7. A pop-up window will appear with Codes that you can copy and paste onto every page of your website. Since you only need your Container ID to connect your Google Tag Manager account to Website Builder, ignore this and click OK.
  8. Manually take note of the Container ID found at the top right-hand section of the page, beside Workspace Changes. The Container ID will start with GTM- followed by a random combination of letters and numbers, e.g. GTM-AB12C3D.

Congratulations! You've just created a Google Tag Manager account and a Container ID. Now you're ready to link it to your Website Builder website using the steps above.
