How To Back Up Files in cPanel
Having a backup files of your website is essential in case something happens to your site. Create a backup copy of your site and save it locally in your computer.
Full Backup
Generate a Full Backup.
The Full Backup includes the Home Directory, MySQL Databases, and Email Forwarders & Filters. Follow the steps below to generate and download a full backup.
- Log in to your cPanel.
- Go to the FILES section and click Backup.
- Click Download a Full Account Backup.
- On the Backup Destination, select Home Directory.
- Enter your email address so that you will be notified once the backup is done.
Download your Full Backup file.
- Log in to your cPanel.
- Go to the FILES section and click File Manager.
- On your File Manager, click the home directory folder on the left pane.
- Locate the backup file, rigth click on it and select Download.
- After downloading the backup file to your computer, delete the backup file in your File Manager to free up some space.
IMPORTANT
cPanel don't have an option to restore a full backup files. However, there is an option restore a partial back ups: Home Directory backup, MySQL Databases backup, and Email Forwarders & Filters backup.
Partial Backup
Download a backup of your Home Directory
- Log in to your cPanel.
- Go to the FILES section and click Backup.
- Click the Home Directory button.
- Wait for the download to complete.
Download a backup of MySQL Databases
- Log in to your cPanel.
- Go to the FILES section and click Backup.
- Scroll down to the Databases section.
- Click the database that you want to download.
Download a backup of Email Forwarders
- Log in to your cPanel.
- Go to the FILES section and click Backup.
- Scroll down to the Forwarders section.
- Click the forwarder (domain) that you want to download.
Download a backup of Email Filters
- Log in to your cPanel.
- Go to the FILES section and click Backup.
- Scroll down to the System Filter Info section.
- Click the system filter that you want to download.
